Darlin Garland
In Darlin's own words, "Cape Breton is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and I still love living here!"
Meet Darlin Garland, a global adventurer whose heart found its home in Unama’ki – Cape Breton during a transformative visit in 2018. Hailing from Germany, she initially came to Canada for studies at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, but it was her exploration of the Cabot Trail that stole her heart.
During a trip to Unama’ki – Cape Breton, Darlin not only fell for the awe-inspiring landscapes but also found love with a Cape Bretoner. In 2021, she was able to permanently relocate to Baddeck, where she has since exchanged vows and happily resides, seamlessly blending into the community, thanks to her husband’s roots.
Welcomed with open arms, Darlin has become an integral part of Baddeck, passionately working at the Baddeck Area Business and Tourism Association to showcase the region’s allure. Her dedication extends to being an ambassador for Destination Cape Breton, where she helps visitors feel the warmth of this stunning locale.
In Darlin’s own words, “Cape Breton is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and I still love living here!” Her journey, from a curious visitor to a committed advocate, exemplifies the power of love and connection to a place she proudly calls home.
Darlin has also been an active member of the Immigrant Advisory Table (IAT) with the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership (CBLIP), providing her firsthand lived experience to help provide the newcomer lens on working group action plans, and overall CBLIP direction. This additional involvement highlights Darlin’s dedication to facilitating the integration and support of newcomers in Cape Breton, further cementing her role as a valued member of the community.
