Citizenship

In order to apply for Canadian citizenship, you must be a permanent resident of Canada, and you must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,065 days in the 5 years immediately before you apply. You’ll also need to file Canadian taxes. 

If you are eligible for Canadian citizenship, below is some general information. 

  • You’ll need to submit all the required documents, including a calculation and proof of how long you’ve been in Canada, to the Case Processing Centre in Sydney.
  • You will need to take a test, and go to an interview or hearing. 
  • Once your application is approved, you will need to the oath of citizenship to become a Canadian citizen.
