Kupala Night
To celebrate the summer solstice – Kupala Night, also known as Ivan Kupala Day, is a traditional Slavic celebration that takes place in Ukraine and other Slavic countries. It is celebrated on the night of July 6th (June 23rd in the Julian calendar). This ancient pagan festival has deep roots in Slavic folklore and is associated with the summer solstice and the celebration of fertility and nature.
During Kupala Night, people gather to participate in various rituals and festivities. One of the central customs is the lighting of bonfires, around which young men and women jump hand in hand to demonstrate their unity and love. Flower wreaths are made and set afloat on rivers, symbolizing wishes for love and happiness.
